Today, March 31, is International Transgender Day of Visibility. After writing that sentence, I sat and looked at the screen, not knowing where to start or what to write. And then I was reminded that I have already written something. Every morning, I send my family an encouraging message. I want them to know, every day, that I love them and am cheering them on in life. Today’s message was particularly for my son, Jasper. It’s what I need to say here, as well:
Today I celebrate Jasper and how speaking and living his truth has made me a better person. Jasper, you have grown my capacity to love and accept people as they are. You have challenged my theology and led to my discovery of a whole new, better, life-giving understanding of God. You have opened my heart to a whole community and a passion to speak love, show love, be love to the world.
I see you.
